Bolt IoT Report Generator

The Bolt IoT Report Generator allows users to create, customize, and automate audit reports using live device data. The system allows users to preview reports and set up automations.

1) Log In

  1. On the login page, enter your credentials.

  2. Click Log In.

  3. Once logged in, you’ll reach the Dashboard, where you can manage your devices and generate reports.


2) Add API Key + Sync Devices

  1. Go to Settings→ API Key.

  2. Copy the API key by signing in to Bolt Cloud (https://cloud.boltiot.com).

  3. After logging in, Go to → API section to get the API Key.

  4. Paste the copied API key into the input box.

  5. Once you get the message that API Key is valid and saved, Click on Save API Key.

  6. Then Click on Sync Devices button.


3) Set Time Zone

  1. Navigate to Settings → Time Zone.

  2. Select your correct local time zone from the dropdown.

Important:

  • Time zone is important because a wrong Time zone breaks report scheduling.

  • If the Time Zone is incorrect, scheduled reports may run at the wrong time.

  • Always double-check this setting before scheduling or automating reports.


4) Templates

Templates define the structure and layout of generated reports. Each company can maintain its own set of templates.

Steps to Create a New Template

  1. Navigate to Templates from the main menu.

  2. Click “New Template from Sample Report.”

  3. Click “Choose File” and select the desired template document from your system. Supported file formats: .pdf and .docx only.

  4. Click Upload and Extract to upload the file.

  5. It will then Analyse Template:

    • Do not close the browser tab while the template is being analyzed.

    • Each company maintains its own unique template.

  6. Click Edit → Edit Template.

  7. Enter the following details:

    • Template Name

    • Page Header – As shown in the image below the header can contain up to 3 lines and will appear on every page.

  1. In Main Content Variables, Graphs, and Tables can be inserted. Header, main content, and footer is completely customizable. If the system is not able to analyze all the information from the template, you are free to always come back and edit the template.

Variable Mapping:

  • If you want to add any new variables, the system allows you to add the variables.

  • Variables will be pulled from the template that is saved. Enter the values for each variable to get the final report for that particular device.

  • Variables are placeholders enclosed in double curly braces {{ }}.

  • When you upload a template, the system scans it for variables and lets you map each one to the correct data source.

To Insert Graphs:

  • Click the Graph icon as shown below and select either Standard View or Full Resolution or as per your reporting preference.

  • Standard View: Displays single or simple metrics with clear labels, axes, and legends. Compact and easy to read. Use Standard Graph for daily or weekly summaries.

  • Full Resolution: Use Full Graph when comparing data across devices or analyzing long-term trends.

To Insert Tables:

  • Click the Table icon as shown below and select either Standard, Compact or Paper saver as per your reporting preference.

  • Standard (4 columns): Balanced design with readable spacing and headers. Includes all data columns. Use Standard for clarity

  • Compact (12 columns): Tight layout with smaller fonts and reduced padding. Fits more data per page. Use Compact for screen-based viewing

  • Paper saver (20 columns): Optimized for printing minimal borders, smaller margins, compressed columns. Use Paper Saver for printed batch reports.

Page Footer 

  • Add a footer with confidentiality statements or page numbering.

  9) Click Save Changes, and the template will be updated successfully


5) Devices

  1. Navigate to the Devices section.

  2. From the Devices tab, select the device to which you want to assign a configuration template.

  3. Click on Configure

  4. Select the template in the dropdown.

  5. Define Variables: required values as per company needs

    • Area

    • Equipment

    • CC Number

    • Temperature Range

  6. Click on Save Configuration.


6) Recipients

Create and manage grouped recipient lists for automated email notifications, ensuring reports are delivered.

  1. Go to navigation menu, click Recipients.

  2. Create on New Recipient List

  3. Enter List name

  4. Enter name and email 

  5. Click on Create List.


7) Automation

Automation allows reports to be generated automatically at predefined intervals without manual intervention.

  1. Go to Automation Tab

  2. Click on Create Automation.

  3. Fill in the following details:

    • Automation Name

    • Device Name - Select the device from the dropdown

    • Frequency (e.g., daily, weekly)[Select based on how often you want the report to be generated.]
      Daily: Generates one report per day at the specified time.
      Weekly: Generates one report each week on the selected day and time.

  • Time - Select time when you want the reports to be generated. 

  1. Click on the dropdown in Email recipients and select the email id that you have created in the recipients tab.

  2. Click on Preview Report to verify settings before activation.

  • It allows you to verify how your configured report (template, variables, graphs, and tables) will look before scheduling it.

  • The preview uses real data from your connected devices for the most recent available time range.

  • This ensures all mappings and data sources are correctly configured.


8) Troubleshooting

            Common issues and quick fixes when using the Audit Report Generator:

1) Reports not generated:

  • Check if the timezone is set correctly if not check settings.
    Go to Settings → Time Zone and select your correct local zone.

  • The Account may not be marked as Pro then write to support@boltiot.com

  • No email received after the scheduled report then usually due to the Greenly wrong time zone issue.
    → Correct your time zone setting and check again.
    → If the issue continues, contact
    support@boltiot.com for assistance.
